Proofpoint: Encrypting an Email Message
Contents
Sending an Encrypted Message
Send the message as you regularly would and Proofpoint will encrypt the contents.
Reading an Encrypted Message
The receiver of the message will receive an email stating that they have received an encrypted message from someone from Rice University with instructions to click a link by a specific date and time to read the message. After that date and time, they are requested to open the attachment instead.
If the recipient follows the "Click Here" link, they will need to create an account. They will be asked to enter their name and to create a password. Also, they need to enter a validation code that is sent in a separate email message before selecting "Continue."
After completing the above process they will then be able to view the message.
Changing Recipient Password
If the receiver forgets their password and they need to view the message again, they can simply reset their password. In the original secure message, they can select the link. When requested to login, they can select "Forgot Password."
The recipient will be guided through the process to reset their password. They will receive an email with a web address that will work for 30 minutes and only once. After the password is successfully changed, the secure message will be displayed again.
