    This past year OIT has been evaluating how to improve the self-service pages in Esther.

  • Home Drive (U: drive) Storage Service Decommission   Nov 8, 2021, 4:29 PM CST

    The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will begin the process of decommissioning the personal home drive (known as the U: drive) starting in December 2021. OIT will be publishing guides for self-migration as well as offer assisted or automated migrations beginning Spring 2022 to alternative cloud storage locations. (NOTE: Group or Departmental storage drives are not part of these service changes.)

  • Google Workspace Storage Limitations   Nov 8, 2021, 4:14 PM CST

    As previously announced Google Workspace will no longer provide unlimited storage to education customers. Under this new agreement, the Google Workspace for Education storage for Rice must now be limited for all faculty, staff, students and visitors. Beginning December 2021 Rice OIT will begin notifying individuals who exceed the new quotas and provide assistance to migrate Google Drive items to an alternative service.

  • Box Storage Limitations   Nov 8, 2021, 4:12 PM CST

    Rice Box, our enterprise cloud-based storage and collaboration service has recently changed its storage limitations. The quota limits have been increased as it applies to current faculty, staff, and students.

  • Endpoint (PC and Mac) Automated Security Patching   Nov 5, 2021, 7:21 PM CST

    Beginning in December 2021, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be initiating a monthly maintenance schedule for managed Windows and Apple MacOS systems in order to automatically apply security patches to managed devices. This process is in direct response to increasing malicious activities and system vulnerabilities that impact the security of the teaching, learning and research technology infrastructure at Rice.

  • macOS Monterey   Nov 3, 2021, 8:02 PM CST

    Apple released its newest operating system - Monterey on October 25, 2021. At this time, OIT is evaluating this new MacOS to verify compatibility with productivity and common Rice applications. Upgrading is not recommended at this time. Select the link to learn more about Monterey!

  • Single Sign-On (SSO) and Duo Two-factor Authentication for Google Workspace & Duo for Microsoft 365   Nov 19, 2021, 2:11 PM CST

    Beginning Fall 2021 semester, Rice Office of Information Technology will be implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) and Duo two-factor authentication access security services to protect Rice Google Workspace for Education and Duo for Microsoft 365 and their respective applications. These are the same services currently used for authentication for: MyNetID, Esther, and imagineOne applications.

  • Subversion (svn.rice.edu) being phased out. Use GitHub.   Aug 19, 2021, 9:17 AM CST

    GitHub is the preferred Version Control System (VCS) since Subversion was placed in read only mode on August 15 and will be turned off January 8, 2022.
