CrashPlan: Getting Started

Crashplan is a fee-based service for Rice-owned PCs and Macs that will automatically back up targeted files.

What is CrashPlan?

Rice University has contracted with Code42 to secure CrashPlan, a backup cloud service with unlimited data storage, for Rice-owned desktop and laptop computers (faculty, staff, lab computers). The size of the backup is unlimited, but CrashPlan can only back up and retain a copy of data and files that currently exist on the computer -  it is not a cumulative storage service.

CrashPlan service is available on a cost-recovery basis for less than $85 per year and is paid for by the associated department or group.

Getting Started

  • Submit an OIT Ticket to purchase CrashPlan. Please include customer information, Fund/Org information and billing contact.
  • OIT will work with the Controlller's Office to complete the purchase.
  • OIT staff will install and configure the application for your office computer.
