How to remotely connect to your Rice computer from off campus

You will need to leave your office computer powered on to connect remotely. 


You will need your full computer name. To locate your office computer name, right-click the Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties.  You will find the computer name in the Computer name section.

I. Downloading, Installing, and Connecting to VPN


In order to connect remotely to your office machine from off campus, you will first need to install the VPN client on your home machine.  See here for instructions on how to install and connect to VPN.

II. Open Remote Desktop Connection

1. Click the Start button Start button

2. In the search box, type Remote Desktop Connection, in the list of results, click Remote Desktop Connection

3. In the Computer box, type the full computer name of your office machine, then click Connect.

4. Enter your NetID and password when prompted (your netid will need to be in the format of adrice\NetID).  Click OK.

Click Yes if prompted.

Accept Remote Certification
