Duo Security MFA for Microsoft 365 Services
Beginning in the Fall 2021 Semester, Rice will begin utilizing Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA) to protect our Microsoft 365 environment. Affected services include Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.
Step 1: If you have not already done so, enroll your mobile device in Duo. The KB article for that process can be found here: Duo Enrollment Guide (rice.edu)
Step 2. Sign into the Microsoft 365 service that you need to access. If you have not logged into a Microsoft 365 service before, this KB article can get you started: Rice University Microsoft 365
Step 3. After providing your sign-in credentials to the M365 service, a prompt will appear notifying you to authenticate with Duo. You can elect to receive a push message or phone call, or you can use the Duo app to generate a 6-digit code. Push is the preferred method.
Step 4. Within a few seconds, you will receive a push notification to your enrolled device. Tap “Approve” to complete the process.
