Research Faculty of Rice University

If the following are true:

Then you should apply for a research sponsor account.

Managing accounts

If you already have a Sponsor account and are trying to find the login to approve requests or revoke accounts

Guest/Academic Visitor Accounts

External collaborators and visitors who are not directly affiliated with Rice University will first need to ask their Research sponsor to visit the visitor area in iO and start the "Academic Visitor" process to get IT Resources that will facilitate requirements for their access to CRC resources and have their sponsor approve their account. It is critically important after a sponsor submits the request the visitor will need to fill out the sent questionnaire as completely and accurately as possible any deviation invites delay. Once the Academic Visitor process is completed and your netID is created, simply apply for a regular user account and choose your sponsor.

Rice University Visitor Management System

  • For sponsors in the Visitor Management System after your Academic Visitor process is complete at that time your Visitor will have the prerequisite access to apply for an account with the CRC.
  • Please note to get to the "Create new visitor" button, you must first click the "Search All Visitors" button. We can only note this at this time.

Class Accounts

Faculty members teaching a course requiring class use of one or more of the shared clusters should submit a request through the help desk detailing the following:

  • Course short name (e.g. COMP101)
  • If the class is cross-listed
  • List of systems required for the class
  • Details of any node/partition reservations needed for the class
  • Any software not already present on the system that will be required for the class
  • When do the accounts need access
  • When do accounts need access terminated

N.B.:

  • Students in a class need not apply directly for class accounts. They will be created automatically when the instructor applies for the class account as above.
  • Students will receive emails from the account creation system once the accounts are ready.
  • Students when submitting jobs should prefix the name of the job with the class short name (e.g. COMP101)
  • Students should check any e-mail addresses submitted via job are correct
