Canvas: New Gradebook
Benefits of the new gradebook in Canvas.
New Canvas Gradebook
In response to feature requests submitted by users, Canvas has developed a new gradebook with many useful components. We are preparing to launch the updated gradebook for the Fall 2019 semester.
The new gradebook speeds up the grading process by making information easier to see and access and by automating grading policies. An additional improvement, Final Grade Override, provides control and flexibility. Special features of the new gradebook include:
Highlight bar indicates the student being graded
Customizable color-codes highlight late, missing, or excused assignments
Grade Detail Tray provides easy access to each students’ assignments or all submissions to one assignment
Choices for sorting and displaying student information
Options to arrange, sort and filter assignments, columns and grades
Icons and verbiage clearly indicative of its function
Grading Policy Automation
Automatically take a specific percentage off of grades for x amount days late
Automatically add zero for missing assignments
Toggle grades as points or percentage
Control and Flexibility through Final Grade Override
Recognizes instructors authority to decide the final course grade
Allows manual entry of a grade different from the automatically calculated grade
Does not alert students the grade is overridden
