Outlook 2016 Setup for Mac

Instructions for Outlook first time setup on a Mac

First Time Setup

1. Open Outlook. The Outlook icon should be located in the Dock or can be found in Finder > Applications.

2.  A Welcome to Outlook screen will popup. Click the Right Arrow.

3. Click Get started.

4. Choose what theme you would like in Outlook.

5. Click Start Using Outlook.

6. To begin setting up your Rice email, click Add Account.

7. At the Add an Account window, click Other Email.

8. Enter your Rice Email address (abc1@rice.edu or abc.123@rice.edu) in the E-mail address field. Type in your Netid password the Password field. The window will than expand to fill out the IMAP account information:
  • Enter your Netid in the User Name field
  • Select IMAP for Type
  • Enter imap.mail.rice.edu for Incoming Server
  • Check Override default port and Use SSL to connect (recommended)
  • Enter 993 for incoming server port
  • Enter smtp.mail.rice.edu for Outgoing Server
  • Check Override default port and Use SSL to connect (recommended)
  • Enter 465 for outgoing server port

Click Add Account

9. Click More Options under Outgoing Server. Verify Use Incoming Server Info is selected for Authentication. Click OK.
