Temporary Guest Access for OTR Classroom Podium Computers

This document explains how Rice faculty/staff/students can request temporary access to an Office of the Registrar (OTR) classroom podium account for guests.

When visitors and guests need access to the Office of the Registrar classroom podium computers for a presentation, a Rice sponsor can request temporary access on their behalf.

Step 1: The Rice sponsor will submit a request to the OIT Help Desk by emailing help@rice.edu or calling 713-348-4357. Requests will be accepted no more than 5 calendar days prior to when needed.  Please allow at least 2 hours for OIT to provide the access (during normal operational hours).

Step 2: Provide the building, room number, date needed, and length of time needed for access.

Step 3: When the account is ready, an OIT Help Desk Specialist will contact the sponsor and provide the username and password. The specialist will also confirm the expiration day and time on the account.

Step 4: We highly recommend that the sponsor tests the account prior to the guest's scheduled presentation.

Please note the following:

  • This process is only required for presenters that do not have a Rice account (NetID) and plan to use the Office of the Registrar classroom podium computers. This is not needed if you plan to use your own laptop.
  • Only current Rice faculty, staff, and students are authorized sponsors. Guests and visitors cannot request access on their own behalf.
  • All communication with the OIT Help Desk should be limited to the sponsor. The OIT Help Desk is not authorized to communicate with the guest presenter.
  • The assigned podium account will only work on the designated computer and room.
