ISO Manual Tenable Agent Installation

This document is a basic configuration for MANUALLY installing the Nessus agent for those who are incapable of utilizing modern management tools such as SCCM, Ansible or JAMF.

[Heading 4]   Recommendations:  

  1. The Information Security Office and OIT STRONGLY recommend configuring servers and desktop systems to utilize centralized management tools such as SCCM/Active Directory for windows, Satellite/Ansible for Linux, and JAMF MDM for OSX-based operating systems.  These tools make the deployment and management of services such as Tenable and FireEye scalable, efficient, and automated.  In addition, this is in line with the continued maturity of the enterprise as a professional IT organization.

Prerequisites:

  1. Administrative access to the host that you wish to install the agent on.
  2. Network accessibility from the host to the Nessus agent management server or proxy
  3. Familiarity with the tools for validating installations and monitoring services  Tools
 Software / Binaries 

  • The software can be acquired from OIT System management staff based on Operating Systems.  For Windows and Mac, software installation packages are available on rnas and Windows Software For
