WhooRU: How to Change an Organization/Department Account Password

This document provides guidance to organization/department account owners on how to change the account password.

Organization or Department accounts are assigned to current Rice faculty or staff but not linked to the individual NetID password. The owner can change the account password in WhooRU.rice.edu, the Online account management system, by signing in to the organization account. 

Change the Ownership of an Organization or Department Account

  • If you are leaving your current department or changing roles within Rice, remember to transfer ownership of any Organization (department) accounts to a new account owner by submitting a Help Desk ticket

  • If you find yourself in the position of taking over the ownership of an Organization (department) account, you can request ownership:

    • Submit a Help Desk ticket indicating an account ownership change - including the account name, previous owner (if known), and department
    • If the previous owner is unknown, the department administrator (Approver) will need to verify the transfer of ownership.

How to Change the Password of an Organization or Department Account

If you already have the organization or department account credentials, you can proceed with steps 1-6. Otherwise, if you do not know the account credentials or do not have access to the accounts, you can skip ahead to the next section.

I have the organization department account credentials

Step 1:  Point your browser to WhooRU.rice.edu, the Online Account Management System

Step 2: Enter the organizational/department account Username and Password on the login screen. Click on Sign In.

Step 3:  Select "My Passwords" from the options menu on the Home page.

I don't know my organization/department account credentials

Step 4: In WhooRU.rice.edu (Online Account Management System) application under My Passwords, you will see the account associated with your organization/department.

Step 5: To change the password for an organization or department account, verify that the account you own is listed below, next to the Account(s).

For example, accounts will be listed and abbreviated.

Step 6: Using the Password Requirements, begin typing your new password. Enter the password one more time to confirm it. Then, select Reset Password.

If you do not have access to the organizational account or do not know the account password, you can step through the Forgot Password process: 

Step 1: Point your browser to the Password Reset Portal

Step 2: Enter the organizational/department NetID and Last Name.

NOTE: The Last name for an organization/department will be the same as the organization account's NetID. So, if your organization account NetID is ITService, you would enter ITService in the last name field.

Step 3: Follow the prompts as it guides you to reset your organizational/department account password.
