Accessing a Rice VDI
How to access a VDI on a RICE computer where the client is already installed
On a Rice PC:
VMWare Horizon Client is installed on all Podium and Teaching Lab PCs.
Access it from the Start Menu from “All Programs” or by searching for it.
Log in with your NetID user name and password. (If you are not affiliated with Rice and have been granted a guest user name and password, please enter this info here.)
Select whether you want to allow or deny access to your local files.
If you need to access files from a USB drive, click “Connect USB Device” and select your USB device.
If you just click on the “X” to close the VDI, you will still be logged in.
From a Mac:
From the Launcher, select the VMWare Horizon client
Enter your net ID and password
Select the VDI you would like to access.
- DO NOT save files to the VDI desktop; they might not be there the next time you log in. Instead, save files to a USB drive or a network location (eg, your U Drive).
- Be sure to LOG OFF. If you just click on the “X” to close the VDI, you will still be logged in.
- If you are accessing the VDI from an off-campus location, you need to connect to the Rice network with VPN.
