On February 17, 2021, Google announced changes to the Google Workspace (formally G Suite) for education. As part of the announced changes for educational institutions, Google will no longer offer unlimited free storage to education customers. The new storage limits and charges apply across all GSuite services (Drive, email, calendar, etc.). A link to information provided by Google is below. https://support.google.com/a/answer/10403871?hl=en&ref_topic=10431464&visit_id=637499695344165908-1487610485&rd=1

Rice University (along with many other higher education institutions) is reviewing the details of the changes and our usage of all Google services, including storage usage, to see how to best comply with these changes. Rice OIT will be working with the campus community and leadership to determine the impact to Rice and design alternative solutions and path forward. Additional announcements will be forthcoming as we learn more.
