Printer and Plotter Locations and Rates

All current Rice faculty, students and staff with a valid NetID can print to the printers listed below. Print jobs can be sent from personal computers or from TS&S-managed computers configured for printing in Mudd Lab, residential colleges and Fondren Library.

General Printing Costs

TS&S charges a printing fee for each page printed to recover the paper, toner, and maintenance costs. Please note that some printers contain special paper, such as a resume or thesis quality paper. All students are billed via the Bursar's Office, and undergraduate students start with a credit of $10. Faculty and staff will be charged to their department billing code. For an overview on printing, watch the video below: 
 

 

Double-Sided Printing Cost

Printing double-sided saves paper and makes large prints more manageable, but does not save you printing costs. For example, a 10-page print will print double-sided on each side of 5 pages of paper but cost $0.07 per SIDE to print (10 x 0.07, the same as printing 10 single-sided pages). 

Please use double-sided printing when possible. It costs the same for a black and white letter-size printing page whether single or double-sided! You will save money, paper, and the environment.

To print double-sided, select Preferences on the printer and choose double-sided. 

Printing from Your Own Computer

Note: Some campus organizations (e.g. Jones Graduate Business School, Fondren Library) offer additional printing services. The rates below do not apply to non-TS&S managed services. Check other organizations' websites for their service rates.

Please note that all printers in residential colleges are black & white, with a letter paper type. The cost per page for both single-sided and double-sided printing is $0.07. See below for lab locations, printer models, and queue names of these printers.

Fondren Library offers other services not listed below.  Check the library's printing page for rates. 

Fondren houses three printers: fonren1 and fondren2, which are black & white printers, and fondrencolor, which is a color printer.. All printers are located on the ground floor adjacent to the PC computers. See below for paper types, printing models, and costs.
