Connecting an Android phone to the Wireless Network

How current faculty, staff, and students can connect an Android phone to the wireless network.

Connecting

Android is an open-source system that can be modified by manufacturers. The functions below will vary, depending on the make, model, and version of the Android OS installed on your device. The instructions below are accurate for most Android devices.

1. Select Wi-fi on the settings page.

2. Make sure that Wi-fi is enabled in order to see Rice Owls (additional explanation below). Click Rice Owls and make sure the settings are:

EAP Method: PEAP

Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2

CA certificate: Use system certificates

Online certificate status: Request status

Domain:  admin-n1.ise.rice.edu

3. Type your NetID in the Identity field; type your NetID password in the Password field.

4. Click Connect and you should see that the network has connected successfully.

*Problems?

If this does not work, it's possible you have an older phone that is not compatible with the Rice Owls 5GHz network. If you cannot connect to Rice Owls, try the Eduroam network.  For Eduroam, login with your NetID@rice.edu  email address and your NetID password. Eduroam is compatible with older 2.4GHz WIFI devices. For further details, see also Connect to the Eduroam wireless network.
