Connecting an Android phone to the Wireless Network

How current faculty, staff, and students can connect an Android phone to the wireless network

Android is an open-source system that can be modified by manufacturers. The functions below will vary, depending on the make, model, and version of the Android OS installed on your device. The instructions below are accurate for most Android devices.

1. Select Wi-fi on the settings page.

2. Make sure that Wi-fi is enabled, in order to see Rice Owls*. Click on Rice Owls and make sure the settings are:

EAP Method: PEAP

Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2

CA certificate: Use system certificates
Online certificate status: Request status

3. In the field called Identity type your NetID. In the Password field, type your NetID password.

4. Click Connect and you should see that the network has connected successfully.

If this does not work, it's possible you have an older phone that is not compatible with the Rice Owls 5GHz network. If you cannot connect to Rice Owls, try the Eduroam network.  For Eduroam, login with your and your NetID password. Eduroam is compatible with older 2.4GHz WIFI devices. (See also Connect to the Eduroam wireless network.)
