Add a Rice Gmail Account to iPhone or iPad through the Gmail App

Connect Rice Gmail to the Gmail App
You can access emails from your Rice Gmail account through the Gmail app on an iPhone or iPad device.
Install Duo
Rice's two-factor authentication app, Duo Mobile, is required to access your Rice Gmail account on your iPhone or iPad. Before continuing with the rest of the instructions, make sure that you have enrolled in Duo.
Install the Duo Mobile app from the iOS App Store
You can also access the Duo Mobile app through a secondary device (i.e., another phone or tablet) if you already have it installed elsewhere. Learn more about Duo enrollment
Install the Gmail App
1. Download the Gmail app from the App Store if it is not already installed. Open the App Store app. Skip to the Connect Rice Gmail to the Microsoft Outlook App section (step 4) below if you have already installed the Gmail app.
2. Select the Search icon.
3. Search for Gmail and select the Get or download icon. You may be asked for your AppleID account credentials. The Gmail app will begin to download.
Return to the home screen and open the Gmail app after the download is completed.
Connect Rice Gmail to the Gmail App
4. Select Sign In.
5. Select Add another account or select Google in the Set up email area.
6. Select Continue to accept sign-in.
7. Enter your email address in the format of <YourNetID>@rice.edu. Select Next.
8. Enter your NetID credentials at the single sign-on (SSO) prompt.
9. Follow the directions in the Duo app to complete the two-factor authentication process. If Push notifications are enabled, you should see a banner appear on your device asking you to verify your identity. Clicking the banner will automatically take you to the Duo app. Otherwise you may need to select Other options for additional verification methods.
10. Select Approve in the Duo app to accept the login attempt.
11. Return to the home screen of your device. Re-open the Gmail app. A "Success" message should appear.
12. Choose to whether to allow the Gmail app to send notifications. Select Don't Allow or Allow.
13. Select the Next or the X button to close out the introduction dialog box.
Your messages should appear in the Gmail app.
Troubleshooting Duo
If Push notifications were not configured in Duo or a banner did not show up or only showed up momentarily, navigate back to the home screen and select the Duo Mobile app to finish the multi-factor authentication approval process for the sign in attempt (such as approving a Push notification or copying a passcode for the Passcode method).
