Using Mover.io Transfer Wizard to transfer data from Google Drive or Box to Microsoft OneDrive

The Mover.io Transfer Wizard is a self-service tool for migrating data from Google Drive or Box to Microsoft OneDrive. Mover.io Transfer Wizard only makes a copy of the selected files during the transfer process. It does not remove them from the source Google Drive location. Please ensure to remove files from Google Drive once the transfer is complete in order to stay below your Google storage limit.

Click on this link to access the Mover.io Transfer Wizard tool. Or, browse to https://www.mover.io and scroll down to find the button that says "Go to Transfer Wizard" and click on it.

Click the "Sign in with Microsoft" button. Use your Rice NetID login and password.

    1. Select the Source Data Location.

In the Transfer Wizard screen, click the “Authorize New Connector” button.

You will be prompted to specify where your data is being migrated from. From the "Authorize Source Connector" page, select the Authorize button for the current data source location.

    • To migrate data from Rice Box, select “Box (Single User).”
    • To migrate data from Rice Google, select “Google Drive (Single User).”
    • NOTE: If you need to migrate data from both Box and Rice Google, execute these steps separately for each source.

Enter your NetID and password for your Rice Google / Rice Box account when prompted.

You will be prompted to specify the Display Name for the Connector that you have chosen. Keeping the default Display Name is recommended.

Click the “Authorize” button to continue.

If prompted, hit the Allow button to grant Mover.io access to the Data Source location.

    2. Select the Destination Location for the Data

In the Transfer Wizard screen, click the “Authorize New Connector” button.

On the “Authorize Destination Connector” page, click the “Authorize” button for OneDrive for Business (Single User).

You will be prompted to specify the Display Name for the Connector that you have chosen. Keeping the default Display Name is recommended.

Click the “Authorize” button to continue.

If prompted, enter your Rice NetID login and password to authorize the connector.

    3. Start the File Transfer

Click the “Start Copy” button to begin the file transfer. If you wish to transfer your files and folders to a specific subfolder within the destination service, you may create and choose that subfolder prior to starting the copy process.

The data copy process is "set and forget". It occurs entirely within the cloud. You do not need to leave this browser window open or even remain online for the process to complete.

    4. Monitoring the Data Transfer

The Mover.io tool will show progress of the data transfer. If errors are found, you can view log data to help understand what the issue was.

    5. Clean Up and Data Removal from Source Location

Mandatory Action Required: Once the transfer is complete, the final step is to delete the files from the source location. Note that Mover.io only copies your files during the transfer. It does not remove them from the source location.

Additional items and qualifiers to note:

    • Google does not allow for the export of Drawings, Forms, Sites, and Maps from Google Drive. These file types will not be moved or copied into OneDrive.
    • Google's proprietary file formats are not compatible with anything other than a Google Workspace Drive. When migrating from Google Workspace, Mover.io converts these files to the Microsoft Office format. See the reference chart below:
    File Format Conversions
    Google Format Office Format
    .gsheet .xlsx
    .gdoc .docx
    .gslide .pptx

The only way to migrate or download a Google format file into OneDrive is to request Google convert it. Microsoft does not control the conversion process and the forced limitations are under Google’s control.
