Microsoft Outlook for Rice Google Mail

Although OIT recommends using the Google Web interface for your Rice Google mail, this document describes how to setup Microsoft Outlook for your Rice Google Mail account.

These instructions are for Microsoft Outlook 2019.

Step 1: Sign in to your Google account  and  check that IMAP is turned on:

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings. See all settings.
  3. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  4. In the "IMAP access" section, select Enable IMAP.
  5. Click Save Changes.

Step 2: Launch Microsoft Outlook.

Step 2:  Enter your Rice Google account:  netid@rice.edu, select Advanced options

Step 4: Sign in to Google:  Rice account information: netid@rice.edu and netid password.

 Step 4:  Allow Microsoft to access your Google Account, select 'Allow' to use Microsoft Outlook.

Step 5: Account setup is complete.  Note: if you do not want to setup Outlook mobile on your mobile phone, Uncheck (Deselect) - "Set up Outlook Mobile on my phone, too"
