Error

screen showing error message about failing to stop recording

Cause

Kaltura Capture is not allowed to record the content of your screen. You may need to allow Kaltura Capture to record your screen for macOS 10.15 (Catalina) and set other macOS security settings.

Solution

Please see Kaltura's page on How to Enable the Kaltura Capture Security Setting on MAC OSX

Additionally, you may also want to select these macOS security options if you are using them to create your recording:

  • Camera - Allows use of webcam when using Kaltura Capture
  • Microphone - Allows use of microphone when using Kaltura Capture
    • Important to enable
  • ScreenRecording - Allows screen recording when using Kaltura Capture
    • Important to enable
  • Automation - Allows recording of Microsoft PowerPoint when using Kaltura Capture
To do so, check KalturaCapture to allow access.
Select KalturaCapture under Camera settings

Check KalturaCapture under Microphone settings

Select KalturaCapture under Screen Record settings

NOTE: These options don’t appear until you launch the apps for the first time. When you do, it should display a prompt to allow KalturaCapture access to the camera or microphone, but these prompts often get hidden under other windows you have open. If you close these windows, they don't appear the next time you launch Kaltura Capture. So, you must manually go to your Mac's System Preferences as described above.
