How To Find MAC Addresses
This document describes how to find MAC addresses on various operating systems and devices.
Windows
- Type Command into the main search bar and press Enter.
- Type in ipconfig/all in the Command Prompt Window, and press Enter.
The 12-digit Physical Address is the same as the MAC address - Highlight the Physical Address and copy the text into a reply to your ticket. If you do not already have a ticket open, please e-mail the copied text to the Rice OIT HelpDesk. Note: Include all Physical Addresses if you are unsure which to send.
Mac OSX using builtin Ethernet (mostly desktops)
1. Under Apple select System Settings then select Network
2. Select Ethernet then click Advanced
3. Click Hardware and you will see the MAC address listed
4. Click OK to exit out of the network preferences.
Mac OSX using Thunderbolt to Ethernet adaptor or similar (Macbooks)
1. Under Apple select System Settings then select Network
2. Select Thunderbolt Ethernet (or the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter if your adaptor is connected to USB) then click Advanced

3. Click Hardware and you will see the MAC address listed

Click OK to exit.
iPhone or iPod Touch
- From the home screen, go to Settings.
- Select General.
- Select About.
- Copy the MAC address from Wi-Fi Address into a reply to your ticket.
Apple TV
- From the home screen, go to Settings.
- Select General.
- Select About.
- Copy the MAC address from Ethernet Address into a reply to your ticket.
Android
Note: The options on Android devices will slightly differ depending on how the manufacturer customized the device.
1. Tap app drawer and select the Settings app.2. Tap the Wi-Fi option under Wireless & networks.3. Tap the menu button.4. Tap Advanced to open the Advanced Wi-Fi screen.5. You’ll find the IP address and MAC address displayed at the bottom of this page.
Chrome OS
1. Click the menu button in Chrome.2. Click Settings.3. Click the name of the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to at the top of the Settings page.4. Click Wi-Fi network again.5. The MAC address will be located under the Connectiontab.
Linux
1. Click the network icon.2. Select Connection Information. The MAC address is labeled under hardware address
