To use a VPN at Rice:  


Step 1: Log in:  Rice University Online Account Management System:  https://mynetid.rice.edu/oams/app/ 
Step 2: You must accept the terms and conditions, select "Accept".

Before you install the VPN software: 
Download the RiceNet.pcf file.
[Right click to "download" to your computer.]

  1. Download the appropriate client for your operating system:
    Download
    • For 64 bit systems, download vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9.exe
    • For 32 bit systems, download vpnclient-win-msi-5.0.07.0290-k9.exe
    Please note that they are not interchangeable.

  2. Locate your download and double-click to open it.

  3. If prompted with a security warning, click Run. Otherwise, go to the next step.

  4. Click Unzip.

  5. VPN Client installation wizard. Click Next.

  6. Select the radio button next to I accept the license agreement and click Next.

  7. Destination Folder for software.  Click Next.

  8. Click Next.

  9. Click Finish.

  10. Click Yes to Restart your computer.

  11. Once the computer has restarted, look in your Start Menu > All Programs >  Cisco Systems VPN folder > Cisco VPN client > open (double click).

  12. Click the Import button.

  13. Browse to the RiceNet.pcf file that you saved in step 2. Select it and click open.

  14. VPN Client RiceNet.pcf file was successfully imported. Click OK.

  15. Select RiceNet located under Connection Entry. Click  Connect button.

  16. When prompted for username and password, Enter your NetID and* password*. (Where "NetID" is your personally assigned Rice user name and "Password" is the associated password.

  17. Click Continue. You are now connected to VPN.

  18. To disconnect from VPN click the VPN icon and select Disconnect.
