How to manually connect a Windows machine to RiceNet3

  1. Go to the Control Panel



  2. Go to Network and Internet > Network Connections



  3. Double Click on the Ethernet adapter which is connected to the wired RiceNet3 Network, (still called Rice Owls).



  4. Click Properties



  5. Check ‘Enable IEEE 8021x authentication'. Check ‘Remember my credentials for this connection each time I’m logged on’. Check ‘Fallback to unauthorized network access’. ‘Choose a network authentication method:’ select Microsoft Protected EAP (PEAP) from the drop-down menu. Click Settings.



  6. Check ‘Verify the server’s identity by validating the certificate’. ‘Trusted Root Certification Authorities’, check ‘AddTrust External CA Root’. ‘Select Authentication Method:’ Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAPv2). Check ‘Enable Fast Reconnect’.



  7. Click OK. Click 'Additional Settings'.



  8. Check ‘Specify authentication mode’. From the drop-down menu, select user authentication.



  9. Type your NetID and NetID password. Click OK until you exit the settings menus.
